Model Paragraph: Mobile phones have become an essential part of our daily lives. They help us stay connected with friends and family, no matter how far away they are. Students can use educational apps, watch tutorial videos, and access information instantly. However, mobile phones also have serious disadvantages. Many children become addicted to games and social media, which distracts them from their studies. Spending too much time on screens can harm our eyes and cause headaches. In conclusion, mobile phones are useful tools, but we must use them wisely and limit our screen time to stay healthy and focused.

Subject: Request for action against increasing stray dog menace

Respected Sir/Madam,

I am writing to bring to your attention the alarming increase in stray dogs in Sapna Nagar and surrounding areas. The situation has become dangerous, especially for children and elderly residents.

Last month alone, three children from our locality were bitten by stray dogs while walking to school. Packs of stray dogs roam the streets at night, making it unsafe for anyone to go out after dark. The dogs also overturn dustbins, spreading garbage and health hazards everywhere.

I would like to suggest the following measures: (1) An Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme should be launched to humanely reduce the stray dog population. (2) Anti-rabies vaccination drives should be conducted regularly. (3) Proper dustbin enclosures should be installed so that garbage does not attract dogs. (4) A helpline number should be set up for residents to report aggressive strays.

I humbly request you to look into this matter urgently and take necessary action for the safety of our residents. We are willing to cooperate with the authorities in any way possible.

Yours faithfully,
Rahul Verma
Resident, Sapna Nagar
Q17.
Model Answer:

Paragraph 1 — In Favour of Abolishing Homework:
Many people believe that homework should be abolished because it puts unnecessary pressure on students. After spending six to seven hours in school, children need time to play, pursue hobbies, and spend quality time with their families. Too much homework leads to stress, anxiety, and even sleep deprivation. Studies in some countries like Finland show that students perform excellently with little or no homework. Instead of bookish assignments, children could learn better through hands-on activities and creative projects done in the classroom itself.

Paragraph 2 — Against Abolishing Homework:
On the other hand, homework plays an important role in reinforcing what is taught in class. It helps students practise concepts, develop self-discipline, and learn time management. Without homework, many students would not revise their lessons at all, leading to poor retention of knowledge. Homework also helps parents understand what their children are learning in school. Teachers can identify weak areas through homework and provide extra support where needed. Complete abolition would leave a gap in the learning process.

My Opinion: I believe homework should not be abolished entirely, but it should be reduced and made more meaningful — quality matters more than quantity.
