Q18. Bonus [2 Marks]
In simple past negative sentences, the helping verb “did” already carries the past tense meaning. Therefore, the main verb must remain in its base form (V1). (1 mark)
Using V2 after “did” would mean marking past tense twice (double marking), which is grammatically incorrect. “Did” + V1 = past tense. Example: “She did not go” (correct) vs. “She did not went” (wrong). The same rule applies to interrogative: “Did she go?” (1 mark)
